The programme gives unemployed TVET College students and recent graduates the 18 months of practical workplace experience they need to complete their National Diplomas — inside one of South Africa’s biggest state-owned companies. If you have finished your N4–N6 theory and are stuck without in-service training, this opportunity is for you.

What is Work Integrated Learning (WIL)?
TVET College students who complete their N4–N6 theoretical subjects cannot receive their National Diploma until they finish a period of practical workplace experience (in-service training). That workplace placement is exactly what this programme provides. As a Transnet WIL Trainee you will work under experienced Transnet employees for 18 months, gaining exposure to real administrative, financial, HR, marketing, reporting and general business-support activities — mentorship and structured training included.
Be aware: the programme provides temporary workplace experience and does not guarantee permanent employment at Transnet afterwards. What it does give you is your completed qualification, 18 months of experience at a major employer, and a CV that stands out.
Who can apply
Based on the advert series’ consistent requirements, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have a Matric (Grade 12) certificate or equivalent
- Have completed all theoretical N4–N6 subjects at a TVET College in a qualifying non-technical field — Transnet’s non-technical intakes cover streams such as Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management and Office Management (check the advert for the exact streams for this requisition)
- Require Work Integrated Learning / in-service training to complete their qualification
- Have an official letter from their TVET College confirming/requesting workplace training
- Have no existing bursary obligation with another company
- Be available for the full 18-month programme in one of the listed cities
